It was an incredible day!
It started off pretty rough though. We woke up and got to the airport at 9am to find out that there was 101 issues with our rental car booking. So we were all cranky and not looking forward to anything after sitting in the airport for half an hour trying to get everything sorted out.
Jaydn ended up volunteering to drive so we got on the road towards Interlaken. We stopped and ate lunch... pizza again. Instead of walking around Interlaken much longer we wanted to budget our time and get on the road to Lautterbrunnen just 20 miles further into the mountains. The whole 2 hour drive was cloudy so we could see the base of mountains but no peaks. The forecast was supposed to be cloudy all day and even snowing in Grindewald so our hopes weren't high for views. Still we were excited to walk around the little towns. As we arrived in Lauterbrunnen some clouds started to subside and we had an incredible view of the closer rock walls. We spent our time there walking around and chatting.
After a long walk in Lauterbrunnen we drove the additional 30 minutes to Grindewald. As we pulled into Grindewald the clouds subsided and the sun came out. We were able to walk around with just a light layer on and enjoy the beautiful town. We watched people ski and admired the huge mountains and people watched everyone walking past us. We stopped for a snack, I ordered chocolate cake, Logan an espresso, Brooke ordered a strawberry milkshake, and Jaydn and Joe got cappuccinos and fries. After our snack Brooke and I parted ways and walked around on our own until we found a beautiful view and she drank espresso while I sipped tea. The boys walked around I guess?
The pictures from today speak for themselves.
We listened to tunes and I dozed on the way home as we wound our way through switchbacks and pretzel shaped roads. We didn't get back til 8 and I was getting hungry. We got dressed and went to a super cool area that was a gelato shop, bar and restaurant. The restaurant was closed so I stoked my hanger with a cocktail and we decided we shouldn't leave Switzerland without trying cheese foundue. We finally got our food around 10:30 and I was sadly disappointed. To my dismay cheese foundue is cheese mixed with wine???? Very stinky, very funky. I dipped bread and potatoes with the rest of them anyway. Brooke, Logan, and Joe all loved the fondue and I was so happy for them. Jaydn ordered something else to protect his tummy from all the dairy.
After eating an insane amount of melted cheese we moved on to one of the bars we were at on Thursday. We enjoyed a couple drinks and some people watching... lots of entertainment was had in that department. At around one the boys decided that wanted to see what a club in Zurich is like. Brooke and I took a train back to Joe's apartment instead. So we're currently laying in bed eating cold pizza and some cookies trying to make bets if the boys will catch the 4:30 or 5:30 train back to our station. We hope they're having an awesome time and we're glad there's a mass tomorrow evening in English super close to us so we can sleep in.
We had a full day and are so grateful.
Notables/highlights:
•WHAT A BLESSING it was that the sun came out for us this afternoon. We could not have asked for better weather. For the whole trip really.
• It was fun to hear all the quotes from Logan on the car ride through the mountains. My favorite was "this is so insane, there's no way that you would be able to describe this to anyone," and he's so right
•it was so nice to bask in the beauty of creation and have some quiet time outside today with my tea.
