Day 16: Munich

Another full but relaxing day! We started with a quick breakfast pastry then took the car to Dachau.

We spent about 4 hours at the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial exploring the large grounds and all the information in the Museum. They were sold out of tour tickets so we did self guided audio tours. We went in through the infamous entry gate saying "work will set you free." The tour took us through the jail, huge maintenance building that was now the museum, the roll call square, the (reconstructed) barracks, the crematoriums, some graves, and even the execution range.

There was many shocking and horrible photos and bits of information that we got to learn and ponder as we wandered through. There was also multiple religious memorial sites set up in the 60s that are places of hope, peace and prayer for visitors and survivors.

Over all it was a beautiful and solemn experience and I would recommend it to anyone.

In the afternoon we were all very hungry and exchanged our heavy morning for a lighthearted beer hall. There was a futball game in Munich today so the hall was full of chanting soccer fans, live music, and liters of beer. The beers were big but the pretzels were bigger! We had a below average meal and a couple of beers before Brooke and I went to explore a few of the ornate churches of the area. I got another snack on the way back to the bar where we got a couple more radlers.

Now we're back at the Airbnb and I'll be sad to say so long to my travel companions tomorrow.
