Day 22: Florence

This morning we slept in which I appreciated! We opened the orange and were sorely disappointed. It was sour and we realized that we have no clue how to tell if a orange is ripe no matter how beautiful it is. We of course shared a laugh on this.

Our goal we to let Alexander see the inside of the Duomo before he left because it's huge, close to our Airbnb, and free. The lines were HUGE. So instead we went and walked around the second level of the market as well as the street outside of the market building. Since we didn't eat breakfast we were all hungry and it would be just moments before Alexander had two angry women on his hands. To kill time until our lunch destination opened we made the wise decision to go to a chocolate shop with free samples.

Our lunch was incredible, we all got pasta and it was all great. Alley and I also got great glasses of wine. I got truffle ravioli ❤️

After lunch we also got gelato before we sent Alexander on his way. We gave him warnings that he better not arrive in Munich much before his google maps ETA.

Very quickly Alley and I started appreciating being on a "girls trip." We started by making our way towards Santa Maria Novella. It's beautiful to see how the renaissance impacted Florence. The basilica was full of detailed frescoes from top to bottom. I was glad to get some prayer time in there before making on to the cloister, crypt, and museum.

After the museum we walked back towards our Airbnb. This is where the "girls trip" kicked in. I didn't even realize that up until this point men have been apart of my trip. It's been great, but I was very happy to start stopping in clothing stores and other cute shops along the way. A favorite today was the Farmacia di Santa Maria Novella. This used to be part of the basilica. Dominican friars used the gardens to make different medications, ointments, and scents. Now days it's a officina profumo, a huge beautiful perfume store. You can buy anything from soap, to house scents, to lotion. I ended up picking out a citrusy light small perfume bottle as my first souvenir of the whole trip. I'm very proud of this :).

After window shopping for a bit longer Alley and I decided to stop for a snack and cocktail. We got a beautiful little appetizer tray and pretty cocktails. It was just what we needed.

After our snack Alley and I went back to our Airbnb, had a glass of wine and discussed all the things we hadn't seen or done yet. A guide book from the Airbnb was helpful in this and we now have an even fuller list. The afternoon flew by and all the sudden it was time for our pizzaria reservations. The pizza was phenomenal and I drank my first beer since Germany.

We went back to our Airbnb, snacked, and drank the rest of our wine. We both called our moms together and laid in bed. I'm happy to say I'm now in the big comfy bed with Alley!

We're about to set an alarm to wake up for our Academia reservations tomorrow. Incase you're wondering we both did our language learning apps tonight. Ciao!
