Day 26: Madrid

Yesterday was a good solo day. Alley and I woke up around 3 am, got our stuff together and took a taxi to the airport. Sadly my check in didn't open until after Alley so we had a pretty anticlimactic goodbye. I had so much fun spending time with Alley and we already are dreaming up more trips to go on!

The flight was pretty quick to get from Florence to Madrid. As we landed I introduced myself to the guy sitting on the aisle seat (we didn't have anyone in the middle seat which was awesome). I think the guys name was Nikolas???? He was coming to Madrid for his Bachelor party and was kind enough to give me some recommendations for my day!

I took a taxi to my Airbnb to avoid an hour long public transit ride. I wasn't able to check in yet so I stopped at a cute cafe very close to my Airbnb and had some brunch. It was incredible!

After I was allowed to drop my luggage at the flat, but not check in yet. So I took a walk to the San Miguel Market and walked around, went into some thrift shops, and even bought a a couple things. I also stopped by a super market to get some breakfast foods for this morning.

I was so happy to finally get back to the Airbnb around 3 after an already long day. So even though there was so much more Madrid to explore I did a load of laundry and laid around and watched some trash tv shows. The previous vacationers had also left one pear cider in the fridge that I enjoyed. The Airbnb is soooo cute and I was able to open up the windows to let some breeze and sounds from the street below in. It was much needed. By 5:30 ish my laundry was done so I put it on the dry rack and got ready for my night out alone.

I was nervous, not about safety at all as I'm in a safe area filled with tourists, but about feeling awkward. My meal was only a 10 minute walk and it was wonderful. I ordered based on some reviews I read and I have no regrets. The shredded beef may have been my favorite food of the whole trip. The meal visually could have been cuter 😂 but overall it was incredible.

Once I paid I looked up a cocktail bar nearby. No one was out drinking yet so I posted up at the bar by myself and made friends quickly with the bar owner and staff! They helped me choose cocktail, created my own cocktail, and my favorite, helped me work on my Spanish.

The cocktail below was non alcoholic... don't worry, I'm being careful!

At one point a local came in for a quick shot and they forced me to introduce myself and my situation in Spanish for practice.... MUY BIEN 👏

I ended up having a blast even though I was solo and stayed out til Midnight!

I got back, touched base with mom was simultaneously flying to Chicago, and hit the hay. As I write I'm awaiting her arrival! Shhh don't tell her I have the cutest yogurt parfait waiting on her!
