Today we woke up to rain in Rome. I haven't really stressed here enough how lucky we've been with weather. No rain has affected us even a little. After a pastry and a coffee we walked to the train station to hoard our fast train to Venice. We were shocked to find out we were traveling over 100mph! It was also so comfortable and I napped almost the whole way there with some breaks to peek at the mountains and hills in the country side of Italy. Once arriving in Venice we had to take a water bus to our Airbnb, this was a new and fun experience. Most everyone in Venice gets around by walking or boating.
We absolutely LOVE our Airbnb and it's not just because Brooke and I get our own bathroom. It's in such a great neighborhood with plenty to eat and drink all around and amazing views. After dropping our stuff off we stopped by a great little restaurant to fuel the rest of our day. We enjoyed our food as well as our waitress!
Once our meal and drinks were finished we started to walk towards St. Mark's basilica. On the way we got stopped by a gondola man who talked us into to taking a ride. We weren't hard to persuade as we didn't really have any plans. The gondola ride was by far the highlight of the day! So much fun and incredibly beautiful. Our driver sang and whistled the whole way and occasionally pointed out some facts. Conveniently we ended the ride right at the St. Mark Piazza.
While we were in the gondola the sun was starting to set and as we got to the Piazza the clouds decided to become entertainment for us. One of the most beautiful sunsets I've seen.... ever. Logan took some extraordinary photos of both the gondola ride and the clouds at sunset... neither are photo shopped!
After gawking at the sky for a bit we window shopped all the fancy designer stores in search for a beer. We ended up at a place right across the way from our Airbnb and had some beers and cicchetti, Venices form of Tapas or small snacks.
I'm now in bed at 11:37, an early night for us and am eager as we look forward to a relaxed and fun day tomorrow! Absolutely loving Venice so far!
Notables/highlights:
•Only one bathroom emergency today
•Jaydn found out he threw a pizza box in a "garbage" that was actually a clothes donation bin... whoops
•As Jaydn, Logan and I left the bar tonight an English man said to us "don't drink from the canal tonight, I'm going to piss in there"
