Day 9: Venice

I'm writing this with motion sickness and not taking the solid ground beneath me for granted. I'm sad to be leaving. Venice was a great city to explore!

Yesterday was a fun and relaxing day in Venice. We started our day with some street pizza, it was very tasty but we had to chase away pigeons until it was finished. We then took a water bus 45 minutes to Burano. Burano is home to many lace makers, glass blowers, and fishermen. We spent a couple hours peaking into shops and admiring the houses vibrant colors. The houses in Burano are all very bright colors because when the fishermen come home in the fog and dark they are able to find their home among the others. It was nice not having anywhere to go or be.

Burano also has a leaning tower so on our way we were guessing what degree it was leaning at. I guessed 3-4 and Logan guessed 9. When we got there we downloaded a protractor app (we forgot ours) and found out that is leaning at 3.9 degrees..... take that Logan.

Back in Venice the girls and boys split up, around the Rialto Bridge. The boys to the fire station while Brooke and I shopped and snacked on cannolis, French fries, and to go noodles. We also snagged a Bellini. Both Jaydn and Logan were gifted a T-shirt by the fire department, and got to go on one of their boats. They actually don't have fire trucks, just boats!

Our Airbnb host had recommended a pizza place in the area so we all went there for liters of beer and house wine and some great pizza. We were about a 45 minute walk from our Airbnb so we split it up into two walks by stopping at a bar. We were so excited to see a family from Buffalo, New York that we had a couple beers with on Monday! Sharon, Mike, and their daughter Alex who is my age. We ended up getting to be good friends for the evening and added a couple from London to the group as well! (Happy Birthday Megan!) We shut down one bar and made our way to the next... we shut that one down as well. Great drinks and even better company!

Brooke and I chatted for way to long and Logan made friends with the cold bathroom floor. It's been a slow morning and we're about to board our train to Zürich!

Notables/highlights:

• I just saw a seagull flying with a full piece of pizza

• Our conversations continue to cross more and more boundaries as we keep getting to be closer friends. Sometimes we have to remember that there are others around.
